Timothy Bradley Vs Nate Campbell Controversy
On August 1, 2009 Timothy Bradley fought Nate Campbell of Unites States resulting to a No Contest (NC) at 3:00 in round 3 of 12. The fight was held at Bradley's hometown of Palm Springs. Energized by his hometown crowd Bradley finished the match in the 3rd round of the fight. Campbell chose not to continue when a cut formed over and behind his left eye due to an accidental head butt early in the 3rd round.
Campbell argued that Bradley's head butt caused the cut, which would have made the bout a No Contest (NC). The referee at that time, David Mendoza disagreed and upon the doctor's stoppage awarded a TKO to Bradley. A replay showed that the cut was caused by an accidental clash of heads. The rules states, that if a fight is stopped by a cut caused by an accidental headbutt before the end of round four, it should be called a No Contest. The California State Athletic Commision (CSAC) therefore changed and overruled the referee's decision to be a No Contest on August 24, 2009.
